SALT LAKE CITY – The lake effect brought a powdery gift for ski and snowboard lovers in Utah, as Snowbird Resort predicted they'd see 12 inches but ended up receiving as much as 30 inches of new snow instead.

Several resorts have already closed for the year, meaning snow enthusiasts flocked to resorts, like Snowbird, that were still open.

Brian Brown, communication manager for Snowbird Resort, said they were thrilled by the snow.

"This is about as much snow as we can see in a 24-hour period," he said. "So if we end up with over 30 inches, that's an amazing amount of snow for the Cottonwood Canyons."

Snowbird Resort plans to stay open until May 17, and this latest batch of snow will help them as they try to reach that goal.
