SALT LAKE CITY -- It's not what you know, it's who you know. That old adage about finding new opportunities may be taking on new meaning for Utah Senator Mike Lee.

The New York Times has called Lee the "idea man" behind a group of young reformers in the Senate.

Lee likes to dig into the nitty-gritty of policy and law, and that doesn't always translate to big crowds and hordes of media.

But Lee has the ear of at least three major presidential candidates: Senators Marco Rubio, R-Florida; Ted Cruz, R-Texas; and Rand Paul, R-Kentucky.

It was Rubio by Lee's side at the conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, and Rubio's presence made the event standing room only.

The two men presented a plan for a simplified tax code to a crowd of reporters. FOX 13 News' Max Roth has the details, see the video above for his report.
