TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — A man was taken into custody after he pulled a kitchen knife and pointed it at a police officer early Saturday morning.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., Unified police were called to a house party near 6500 South and Redwood Road.

Witnesses told police they thought there were minors at the house and that alcohol and drugs were possibly involved. No parents were believed to be at the residence.

When police arrived at the home, a Taser was deployed after a 29-year-old man pulled a kitchen knife and pointed at an officer.

“If an officer is faced with that kind of force, legally they’re allowed to meet that force with equal or greater force. So fortunately this didn’t end up in some kind of altercation where deadly force had to be used,” said Lt. Steve Shreeve with Unified police.

Some kids ran out the back of the home, but 10 of them were taken into custody and eventually released to parents or grandparents. They will be referred to juvenile court.

The 29-year-old man was charged with assaulting a police officer.

A woman was also charged with assaulting a police officer after she reportedly slapped the officer who deployed the Taser.

A 20-year-old man is also facing charges for contributing to the delinquency of minors.
