SALT LAKE CITY - A new study from the Utah Department of Transportation shows most of those on the road with you during rush hour aren't going to work.

UDOT's latest study focused on why people were out driving and how many people were in the car.

According to the researchers, more than half of the people out during rush hour are running errands.

Officials said many were dropping off their children at school and heading to the gym or the post office.

Also, it showed more people are using other methods of transportation like biking, walking and public transit.

However, UDOT said it would still like to reduce the number of cars on the road with only the driver.

UDOT said it is trying to make room for Utah's growing population and this data will help.

Officials said it can show where to build new roads and where to update existing ones.
