SALT LAKE CITY -- Even though it's only the first day of spring, Utah fire officials are already worried about this year's fire season.

One of the chief areas of concern are unlicensed agricultural burns, as crews have already responded to several out-of-control fires in northern Utah that started as planned debris or agricultural fires.

Fire officials want to remind everyone the open burn season doesn't start until March 30, and they said even at that point people still need to make sure they have a permit to burn.

"A lot of those procedures haven't been happening,” said Ryan Willden of the North Tooele Fire District. “We've already had a couple of runaway fires here in the county that have been caused by burns from agricultural purposes."

Willden said information about when and how you can burn is available on the Division of Air Quality’s website.
