Top ways to make your home energy-efficient & how it could win you $10K

Are you "wattsmart?" If not, you might want to think about it because it could win you $10,000 in energy-efficient upgrades for your home.

But you don't have to win to make your home more efficient.

Here are a few simple ways to make a difference at your home right now:

- Lighting - Use new Energy Star qualified LED bulbs.

- Appliances - Keep refridgerator coils clean, set refrigerator at 37F-40F and freezer to 0F or efficiency, upgrade to Energy Star qualified appliances.

- Cooling and Heating - Clean/replace AC filters, tune up your AC tuned or consider evaporative cooling, install energy-efficient shower heads, set water heaters to 120F.

- Gadgets - Unplug them. They draw power when you’re not using them. Smart power strips or timers can make it easy to do it.

Rocky Mountain Power is inviting all Utah residential customers to enter the Act wattsmart Video Contest.

Just submit your 30- to 60-second video by May 17, 2015 for your chance to win.

Grand Prize: $10,000 in energy efficiency upgrades for the best video; two runners-up will also receive $2,500 in energy-efficient upgrades.

People's Choice Award: $2,000 in energy efficiency upgrades to the video that receives the most votes from the public.
