SALT LAKE CITY — A new bill in the Utah State Legislature clears the way for you to take a “selfie” when you vote.

Under current Utah law, it is a crime to photograph and publish a photo of a ballot that has been voted on. House Bill 72, sponsored by Rep. John Knotwell, R-Herriman, removes the criminal provision for “ballot selfies.”

It still makes it a class C misdemeanor to publish and photograph someone else’s ballot.

The bill passed the House unanimously on Monday morning. It goes to the Senate for consideration.
