PROVO, Utah -- Lexi Eaton continues to impress. She is a two-sport athlete, excelling in basketball and at the high jump for Brigham Young University's track and field team. She was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week after she had the game of her life against Pepperdine.

"It means a lot to get some recognition and to bring some recognition to the BYU team as well," Eaton said. "Yeah, I had a solid week."

And by solid, she means incredible. During her game against Pepperdine, Eaton scored 37 points - 24 of those in the first half - with 14 rebounds. Impressive stats for any basketball player.

"I didn't realize she scored 37 because I am used to her playing like that in practice," BYU women's basketball head coach Jeff Judkins said. "She's playing with a lot of confidence, you know, letting it come and for me, what a dream to be able to coach her."

Judkins makes a very strong comparison to Eaton.

"She reminds me a lot of Kobe Bryant, kind of like that," Judkins said. "That kind of a player, where she can effect a game so much."

"I feel like I've figured out how to get in the zone and stay in the zone," Eaton said about developing her game. "That comes with, well I don't want to give away too many of my secrets, but it comes with being more prepared before a game in all aspects, mentally, emotionally, physically and that's really been the key for me to get into the right mentality."

But, it has not always been smooth sailing for the guard. She has suffered multiple injuries that threatened her career.

"I think a lot of people don't realize how much work it takes to get back to that level," she said. "It's been huge to see the growth and the progression and just to get to the point where you can start to see your potential coming through... that's the real ultimate goal, and it's great to see it turn out into success."

The Lady Cougars will play in Stockton, California against Pacific on February 14 at 3 p.m.
