SALT LAKE CITY — The newest ski resort in Utah will not be opening until next winter.

Ski Utah, the marketing arm of Utah’s ski resorts, announced on Friday that Cherry Peak is unable to open this season.

“The Grand Lodge design improvements, and ski lift and snow making expansions resulted in some unanticipated delays. These upgrades and enhancements will provide years of enjoyment to the guests of the resort beginning early in the 2015-2016 ski season,” Ski Utah said in a statement.

Cherry Peak is located near the Utah-Idaho border and was slated to open for the 2014-15 season. It is the state’s 15th ski resort.

“With all the enhancements we’ve invested in recently, we will soon have the ski related construction completed and will shift our focus to preparations for summer activities, followed closely by start-up operations for the upcoming ski season,” said Cherry Peak CEO John Chadwick in the statement. “We firmly believe these resort upgrades will improve Cherry Peak customer experience.”

The resort said it would honor vouchers and passes next season.
