SALT LAKE CITY — Governor Gary Herbert is asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Utah Republican Party over the so-called “Count My Vote” bill.

In a formal answer to the GOP’s lawsuit filed Monday in U.S. District Court, the governor and the attorney general’s office urged a federal judge to dismiss the GOP’s lawsuit over SB54.

The GOP is suing over a compromise bill that lets political candidates skip the caucus/convention system if they gather enough signatures to get on the ballot. A hearing has been scheduled for next week.
