Turkey pardoned by Lt. Governor enjoying new lease on life

SALT LAKE CITY -- The holidays have come and gone, and we're all settling into the new year, including one very special bird.

Turko the turkey was the lucky bird pardoned by Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox and sent to live out his days at Thanksgiving Point.

He's a happy bird, but, due to genetics, birds meant for the holiday table aren't bred to live long. Most pardoned turkeys only live a short time after receiving their freedom because they are bred to grow so big, and quickly their legs can't support their weight.
