SALT LAKE CITY - The hearing for Alicia Englert, the Kearns mother who admitted putting her newborn in the garbage, was short Monday.

It was just long enough to state Englert completed a mental health evaluation.

The findings of the competency exam will be reviewed at another hearing Jan. 26.

Officials said Englert gave birth to a baby, without her family knowing, and dumped it in a neighbor's garbage can.

That neighbor heard what she thought might be a cat stuck in the trash and found a baby when she looked inside.

Englert was arrested shortly after and the baby is now 4 months old.

The Kearns mother was allowed a farewell visit with the baby who is now with a foster family.

Englert is due back in court Jan. 26.
