SALT LAKE CITY — The first night of a New Year’s DUI blitz conducted by Utah Highway Patrol yielded more than 200 stops and a handful of arrests in northern Utah.

Due to the extended holiday weekend, the enforcement will run through Sunday, according to UHP officials.

During the first night of the blitz, UHP troopers stopped 183 vehicles and made 22 DUI arrests.

These numbers include Weber, Davis, Salt Lake and Utah Counties.

New Car Dealers of Utah helped the UHP with the DUI blitz by presenting them with a check for $5,000. The money, which is part of the “Good Wheels” program, will go toward helping pay for overtime for troopers who accrued it during the DUI blitz.
