HERRIMAN, Utah — One man was taken into custody after a search warrant executed on a Herriman home revealed a variety of drugs and more than $5,00 in cash, Tuesday afternoon.

Detectives from the Metro Gang Unit and Unified police received information that there were illegal narcotics at 12657 S. Tascana Way. Detectives were in the process of writing a search warrant and conducting surveillance on the home when suspect Israel Peterson, 32, of Herriman, left the residence and got into a red Chevy truck, according a press release from Unified police.

Police attempted to stop Peterson a short distance from the house when the suspect fled, the release states.

Detectives pursued Peterson through the neighborhood and onto Herriman Parkway. Police lost sight of suspect but a few seconds later came across a crash at 5200 West and Herriman Parkway where Peterson ran into the back of a Ford Expedition, the release indicated.

The driver of the Expedition, a 19-year-old woman, was uninjured. Peterson was transported to Riverton Hospital with minor injuries.

A search warrant on the home yielded nine pounds of methamphetamine, one ounce of heroin and small amounts of marijuana and spice. Police also seized $5,300 in cash.

Police say Peterson is known to carry a firearm although no weapon was found during a search of the home and truck.

If anyone finds a firearm in the area of the pursuit, police advise them not to touch it but to call Unified police at 801-743-7000.

Peterson was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and fleeing from police.
