KEARNS, Utah - A Kearns teen is in an induced coma after he was hit by an SUV Tuesday.

Police said 15-year-old Dallas, a sophomore at Kearns High School, was crossing the street when a Nissan Altima collided with a Pathfinder, which then hit him.

Dallas' family said they are cautiously optimistic because he is doing better than the day before.Kearns teen SUV crash 1

However, Dallas is still in critical condition.

Relatives said Dallas was walking to school when the collision happened at 4215 West.

"As long as my son pulls through," Dallas' mom, Brandi, said. "Of course we'd like to see our Dallas back. We hope to have back that happy, goofy little boy that he's always been but we'll take whatever we get at this point."

Medical bills are already piling up so a Go Fund Me site has been created to help Dallas' family cover the costs.

As for the two cars involved in the accident, officers said it will be weeks before they know what caused the wreck.
