Syracuse man dies in hunting accident in Cache County, police say

CACHE COUNTY, Utah — A Syracuse man is dead after a hunting accident in Cache County Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at Sportsman’s Paradise hunting club just before 2 p.m. where four Davis County men had gone to hunt pheasants, according to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.

While trying to shoot a pheasant one of the hunters slipped in mud and accidently fired his 12-gauge shotgun in the direction of Norman E. Newbold, according to the sheriff’s office.

Newbold, 57, was hit in the back and immediately collapsed. The three hunters administered first aid and called 911.

When medical crews arrived, the Syracuse man was taken to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the sheriff’s office the shooting appears to be an accident. No criminal charges are being considered at this time.
