WEST JORDAN, Utah - One man is in critical condition after his car collided with a semi truck in West Jordan Wednesday.

Just before 8 a.m., authorities were called to the scene on U-111 near 8300 South.

Officers said a 32-year-old man in a green sedan was driving south on U-111 and a northbound semi made a left turn colliding with the car.

The man in the car was flown to the hospital; the semi driver was not hurt.

Authorities said they are seeing an increase in accidents in this area.

According to investigators, it's a crowded corridor and vehicles may not always be able to see oncoming traffic on that stretch of highway.

"The biggest factor is there's a slight rise here and a small car traveling, coming up over the hill and the semi truck driver says he just didn't see the car," West Jordan Sgt. Dan Roberts said.

U-111 is a busy two-lane road, also known as the Bacchus Highway; it's not very wide.

Residents in the area said construction vehicles are the majority of the traffic.

Those nearby said they have recently noticed several accidents and want things to change.

The speed limit is 60 mph but residents told Fox 13 drivers frequently speed and with snow and deer, the road becomes even more dangerous.

UDOT has installed a sky bridge next to the junior high school so students don't have to cross the street.

However, with the recent growth in the area, residents said they would like to see more changes.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
