PROVO, Utah — A Draper teen involved in a deadly shootout that happened through two counties rejected a plea deal Monday morning.
In January Meagan Grunwald, who is now 18, was in a truck with Jose Angel Garcia-Juaregui when police say he fatally shot Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cory Wride and wounded Deputy Greg Sherwood.
Grunwald is charged with first-degree felony aggravated murder and a dozen other charges.
The deal Grunwald rejected Monday would have had her pleading guilty to first-degree felony murder and two counts of third-degree felony attempted robbery and aggravated assault.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors would have recommended she be released after 15 years in prison.
A trial date is expected in February 2015.
