FARMINGTON -- A $6 million bond for a new park and a recreation center went from losing by two votes to passing by 25 after 17,000 uncounted ballots were finally tabulated.
Some closely watched school board races stayed the same with Davis County Commissioners meeting to finalize the results of the election on Tuesday.
Davis County participated in a vote-by-mail initiative, sending ballots to every registered voter in the county. They had to be postmarked the day before Election Day, and thousands came in. With that many uncounted ballots, it led to some anxious moments for candidates.
State law forbids revealing the results of those ballots until canvassing, something voters complained about and the Lt. Governor's Office has said it wants to change.
The bond election was a surprise for many.
"It's just proof that, you know, a few more votes can make a lot of difference," said Davis County Commission Chairwoman Louenda Downs.
Davis County isn't the only one with uncounted ballots. Salt Lake County participated in a same-day voter registration drive, resulting in more than 20,000 provisional ballots that have yet to be counted. Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen told FOX 13 it could change some close legislative races.
Salt Lake County will finalize its election results next week.
