USU, Hawai’i each put up more than 400 yards as Aggies win 35-14

HONOLULU – The Utah State University Aggies traveled to Honolulu to take on Hawai’i Saturday night, and freshman quarterback Kent Myers led the team to victory in his first career start.

Myers was good for 186 yards through the air and three touchdowns, and freshman running back LaJuan Hunt added another 150 yards on the ground in the 35-14 win.

Myers was 14 of 15 passing, while Hunt racked up his 150 yards on a career-high 33 carries, according to a press release from USU.

Hunt caught two passes as well, including a 44-yard touchdown that came in the third quarter courtesy senior wide receiver Ronald Butler. The play made Butler 1 for 1 on passes with one touchdown, which added to his six receptions for 79 yards. Junior wide receiver Hunter Sharp accounted for two touchdowns and finished the game with three receptions for 77 yards.

The Aggies combined for 465 yards of total offense, 230 passing and 235 rushing, compared to the 454 total yards, 356 passing and 98 rushing, put up by Hawai’i.

The Aggies defense got in on the scoring as well after Senior linebacker Zach Vigil forced a fumble that was returned for a touchdown. Vigil also had 12 tackles and a career-high three sacks in the game. Senior safety Frankie Sutera accounted for two turnovers of his own with a pair of interceptions.

USU improves to 6-3 and 3-1 in the Mountain West while Hawai’i falls to 2-7 and 1-3 in the Mountain West.

Utah State will play next on Friday at Wyoming, and the game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
