Big Budah’s blog: A bump at the base of my skull

Posted

What a busy week with football playoffs beginning! And by the way, I want to give a big shout out to the U of U for handling USC and for the awesome tour they gave the Alta PeeWee A squad–thanks Coach Whitt!

I am finding myself busier than ever and am surprised that I have enough energy. I am having to cram in a Turbo Jam 20 minute Cardio Blast to make sure I get some exercise in. When I was heavier, I never felt sick or unusually abnormal. Since dropping 150 pounds, my doctor has noticed some things that seemed normal at the time.

I have lost a lot of excess fat around my neck and head area, and during a follow-up visit at my family doctor we discovered a bump the size of a golf ball at the base of my skull. Because of its size and feel, a biopsy cannot be performed to determine its content, so the best case scenario is to have it surgically removed next week.

I am torn over this new discovery. Here is what I said to myself: “Damn, when I was fatter I didn’t have any of this shiz, and now I’m losing weight and I have all these problems!”

I realize that maybe I have been this way for a while but just couldn’t detect them due to the excess weight. It is appropriate at this time being that October is ended and Movember is starting. I am growing my facial hair out in honor of my Father Lisona, who passed away from Colon & Prostate cancer, so I’ve included a photo showing my face on day one of a month with no shaving.

I am grateful every day for the new day and opportunity to make a difference in my life and the lives of my family. Thank you again to all those who aided me in this journey and who continue to fight with me. Thank you to the Good Lord, doctors Cottam and Richards, BMI Utah, Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, FOX 13, and all of you.
