SALT LAKE CITY — Special Olympics Utah will hold their annual Fall Sports Classic this weekend, and the University of Utah is hosting.

More than 800 young athletes are competing in everything from aquatics to basketball, and even bocce ball.

Aside from the games, participants will also enjoy face painting and an opening ceremony. One athlete’s father said the Special Olympics give his son’s life meaning, and his son agrees.

“To have the kids included, and, you know, out in society and playing, that’s part of it,” said William Odriscoll.

The Fall Sports Classic opens Friday night and resumes Saturday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The group said they welcome volunteers who wish to help with things like meals, score keeping and the awards ceremony.
