WENDOVER, Nev. -- As Utah's deer hunt gets underway, many women are "losing" their men to the outdoors this weekend.

That's why many of them are headed to Wendover, Nevada for the annual "Deer Widows Weekend."

Just feet beyond the Utah-Nevada state line is where many Utah women will be this weekend. You'll be able to find them inside the casinos without their significant others. Their husbands, boyfriends, or fiances may or may not be hunting, but these women tell FOX 13 News the weekend is all about fun with the girls.

Plans for the 30- year-old weekend tradition include two sold out male revue shows, stocked bars and plenty of gambling.

Saul Andrade is the Advertising Director for Peppermill Resorts, and he spoke about the weekend.

"I've seen both, where we have a large group of men come out to have a good time and we have a large group of women come out and have a good time, and we definitely staff up when it comes to the women because once women get together it's a different story,” he said.

The women who spoke with FOX 13 News said they are ready to let loose and have fun with their girlfriends, minus the men and children.

Katrisha Wallace from Salt Lake City said, "That's what I call Deer Widows Weekend, our turn to have fun."

Elise Carpenter from Sandy is new to the tradition.

"I had no idea what it was until I heard that it was a bunch of male dancers, and then I was kind of on board,” she said.

Group after group of Utah women, whether the men in their lives are hunting or not, said the kick off to the deer hunt was just an excuse to party.

Casinos like the Montego Bay are expected to be sold out. They will have a handful of rooms and show tickets as they always expect last minute arrivals.
