HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A lovers’ quarrel ended in a heinous case of animal cruelty.

Police said a Florida man poured boiling water onto his ex-girlfriend’s dog Sunday, burning off much of the pet’s skin.

Now, 27-year-old Alan Williams is facing a charge of tormenting an animal.

The good news is doctors say the pup, “Moon,” is a fighter.

It’s not easy for her owner, Marita Facca, to walk into the Hollywood animal hospital.

“Horrible; she doesn’t even have any fur,” Facca said. “She used to love going in the water; I don’t even think she wants to be around water.”

According to Hollywood police, Williams poured boiling water on the 1-year-old pit bull Sunday.

And when Facca, who recently broke up with Williams, showed up to his Hollywood home Sunday, they say he refused to hand over Moon and locked himself inside.

Facca called police.

Williams was taken to police headquarters.

There, police said he started spitting on officers.

Moon is now going through the beginning of a long-term recovery.

Doctors said organ failure is the main worry.

Moon’s medical costs are expected to exceed $10,000.
