New cases of the West Nile Virus have been reported in three different Utah counties.
Authorities said three horses have been diagnosed with West Nile Virus.
Experts said that number is down significantly from years past.
The cases were in Box Elder, Uintah and Iron counties.
In previous years Utah has seen as many as 60 to 70 cases of WNV in horses.
The West Nile season is coming to an end but there are still sick horses out there.
Warren Hess, Acting State Veterinarian, said, “We recommend that anyone who has a horse that’s showing neurological symptoms for example weakness in their back legs, they may be dragging a foot or something like that, they should take them to the veterinarian immediately.”
More than half of the horses diagnosed with the disease will recover.
The other third with either die or be euthanized.
Health officials said horse owners are not at risk of getting the disease from the horses.
