WEST JORDAN, Utah – An annual walk held in Salt Lake City Saturday set out to raise funds for an organization offering support to individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

The Utah Down Syndrome Foundation’s annual Buddy Walk was held at Veteran’s Memorial Park, 1985 W. 7800 South, and according to a press release from event organizers, the money raised will go toward funding education, early intervention, social and advocacy programs.

The event included an optional 5K as well as a carnival booth and appearances by Heroic, Inc., which brought costumed super heroes out to interact with attendees.

Cooper Trost, Buddy Walk Chairman, said the theme for Saturday’s event was heroes.

“We’re celebrating heroes,” Trost said. “Of course, the people with Down syndrome in our life are heroes to us, and the parents that help raise those people with down syndrome are heroes for the work that they do and the love that they show.”

The Utah Down Syndrome Foundation was founded in 1977 with a mission to support Utahns with Down syndrome and their families. The Buddy Walk is the group’s largest fundraiser of the year, and, according to the group’s website, $27,207 of a $30,000 goal has been raised so far.
