Officials debate over possible constuction of new dams, reservoirs

SALT LAKE CITY -- Water and growth are clashing on Utah’s Capitol Hill.

Water officials and a nonprofit group are squaring off about a proposal that could have a real impact on the Great Salt Lake.

State water officials want to build several new dams and reservoirs along Bear River. The Division or Natural Resources says diverting the water is necessary to serve a population that is expected to double by 2060.

The Utah Rivers Council says it’s a disastrous plan.
