UINTAH COUNTY, Utah — A Vernal man is dead after a rollover ATV accident in Uintah County Saturday night.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., Uintah County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an ATV crash at 2000 N. 3000 West in Maeser, about five miles east of Vernal. When they arrived, they found Alan Heiner, 37, dead on the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office Heiner was riding a four-wheeler on 3000 West when he was unable to manage a turn in the roadway at 2000 North. He wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of crash.

The off-road vehicle went off the right side of the road where it struck multiple roadside signs  and rolled at least once, according to the sheriff’s office. Heiner was thrown from the ATV as it rolled.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The accident is currently under investigation.
