What an amazing week! It is the first time that I have had to work out-of-state in a long while, and of all places and locations I am working in Hawaii.
A lot of things have happened to me that kind of speak to my progress along this Losing for Life weight-loss journey. I was able to fly on an airplane without a seat belt extension, and I was also able to open up the foldout tray in front of me. I haven’t been able to do that since 1992!
It was so nice to go back home to Hawaii and to be able to have fun and experience the new Disney Aulani resort, but more importantly to be able to walk around, swim in the ocean, and interact and participate in activities such as paddle boarding and body surfing without any hindrance from my weight. That was a really, really cool experience for me.
I was able to see my little brother and spend some time with him. He has also been making some healthy changes and choices in his life. He is no longer drinking soda, and that is really hard because in his job he does a lot of moving around and heavy lifting and a lot of times the energy he relies on comes from soda.
A highlight from this week, aside from going to Hawaii with my wife to work and play—well, more work than play, was I got to meet Big Boy from Power 106 FM in Los Angeles. He also can be heard on U92 in Utah. Unbeknownst to him, he was a big inspirational factor for me to lose weight. It started to help me believe that I could do it too…it didn’t hit me until my encounter with my daughter.
Thank you so much to Doctors Cottom and Richards, BMI Utah, Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, FOX 13, and all of you. And, since I am in Hawaii: Mahalo Nui Loa.
