IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho – Two men from Salt Lake City died when a small airplane crashed in Idaho late Tuesday night.

According to information from the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were notified of a possible plane crash around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday; the crash was reported to be in an unknown location in the wilderness between Warren and Mackey Bar.

The plane was located Wednesday near Yellow Pine, and officials said the bodies of the victims were recovered and transported to a funeral home.

Authorities identified the victims as 57-year-old David Ray Fitzgerald and 61-year-old Randy Scott Butters.

The press release stated Fitzgerald was reported to be the pilot of the aircraft, which was a small single engine vehicle described in the release as an experimental high wing airplane. The two men frequently took sightseeing trips together, the release stated, and they were on their way from Sulphur Creek Ranch to Dixie as part of a tour of back country airstrips.

The NTSB is investigating the crash and autopsies have been scheduled.

The cause of the crash is unknown. FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
