NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- Most residents impacted by the landslide in North Salt Lake were allowed back into their homes as of Tuesday night.

Officials say residents do return at their own risk.

After the slide destroyed one home Tuesday morning, three houses remain threatened. Those four families were ordered to remain evacuated because emergency crews don’t think they could quickly get them out if there’s another slide.

About 50 residents met with police and firefighters at a Red Cross Shelter. North Salt Lake police chief said the hillside remains saturated and unstable but crews think they could evacuate most families if the earth moves again.

Residents were told be ready to evacuate.
