SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah hits the top of the list nationwide with the highest rate of melanoma cases, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

The Utah Department of Health says due to Utah’s climate along with people not putting on sunscreen and covering up melanoma cases are above average.

“In the state of Utah our melanoma rate is 31.9 per 100,000 -- what that means is we are approximately 61 percent higher than the national average,” said Lynne Nilson, Director of Utah Cancer Control Program.
