UTAH – A Utah man was killed in a vehicle crash near the border between Utah and Idaho early Sunday morning.

According to a press release from Idaho State Police, a Chevy Venture traveling eastbound on I-84 near the Utah/Idaho border swerved into the median to avoid hitting an animal, over-corrected as it came back into its original lane of travel, moved back into the median and then overturned.

The crash occurred around 3:20 a.m.

Police said 60-year-old Mark Beaslin of Taylorsville was sleeping in the cargo area of the van and was ejected when the vehicle overturned. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died due to injuries he suffered in the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 17-year-old Kenneth Brooks of Magna, was also transported to a nearby hospital. Police did not provide specific details about Brooks’ condition in the press release but stated he was wearing a seat belt.

Idaho State Police are investigating the crash.
