HERRIMAN, Utah – Crews have put out a brush fire in Herriman near 140th S. and 78th St. W.

The fire was less than an acre in the Rose Crest area.

Fire crew quickly prevented the flames from spreading to nearby homes.

Firefighters said they believe lightning from Sunday night’s storms may have sparked the fire.

The area is no stranger to wildfires.

Authorities said this fire serves as a warning and reminder to be extra careful with Pioneer Day coming up.

“We’ve had very high temperatures over the past couple weeks, everybody’s experienced that, we’ve had a couple of Red Flag warning days for high winds, low relative humidities, plus fireworks, all of that combined can be very dangerous in the urban interface,” Capt. Anthony Widdison said. “We have lots of homes that are built up in these areas and can be threatened by wildfire so it is a good reminder to be cautious.”
