WEBER COUNTY, Utah – Search and rescue crews were called out to Pineview Reservoir Saturday after several people observed a body in the water, and a fisherman in the area said he hooked something that broke his line just before the body came into view.

Deputies from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area east of Anderson Cove just before 3 p.m., and dive teams from Weber County Search and Rescue were sent to search for the body.

According to a press release from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, crews searched for about two hours before locating the body in 15-feet of water near the point of the beach where it had last been observed. The body was found around 5:15 p.m. About seven divers and 15 support personnel along with two boats and units from WCSO’s marine patrol participated in the recovery effort.

In a subsequent press release officials stated the body is that of a 16-year-old female who was listed as a runaway and who was suspected of being suicidal. As the victim is a juvenile and the case remains under investigation, her identity is not being released. Police initially reported the deceased was male prior to issuing the second press release.

The fisherman who reported hooking something that broke his line before the body was observed was on the shore, and several other people in that area also reported seeing the body.

The initial press release stated: “It is unknown how the person died or how long they had been in the water. At this time, there were no reports of anyone missing at the reservoir.”

Officials with the Medical Examiner’s Office have taken possession of the body as the investigation continues. FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
