SALT LAKE CITY – A woman accused of attacking her neighbor with a samurai sword last month appeared in court Wednesday, and after her appearance she spoke to FOX 13 News about the incident and offered an explanation.

Tasha Davis allegedly attacked her neighbor, Barney Salazar, with a samurai sword in June in a neighborhood near 1100 S. 400 East; the man suffered a deep slash on his elbow.

After Davis’ brief court appearance Wednesday, she initially told FOX 13 News she had “no comment”, but she later opened up about what happened on the day of the alleged attack.

Davis said she had a painful miscarriage not long before the incident, and she claims Salazar made a habit of harassing her.

"I am sorry for whatever happened, it was not my intention to hurt him but all I wanted was to grieve peacefully,” she said. “...I was 4 months along, spent 2 days in the hospital with 102 fever in the maternity ward, and he still wouldn't let me grieve peacefully, and all I was trying to do was get over this traumatic experience and move on with my life, and he's made it completely impossible for me to do anything."

Salazar spoke to FOX 13 News on June 16 about the incident.

He said in June: "And I walked around this side of the car, right here, and I was opening the car door and that's when I heard her yell, ‘So you wanna go Barney?’ And she had [the sword] with one hand, then grabbed it with two hands and came at me."

Davis said she regrets her actions.

“I do regret the whole thing with the samurai sword, I know if I was in my right mind I never would have done that. It must have been me feeling triggered from the past from him consistently harassing me,” she said. “You look at the size difference, I would be easily intimidated by someone three times bigger than me."

Davis faces an aggravated assault charge and is due in court July 21.
