DAVIS COUNTY, Utah – Silver Eagle Refinery will pay a fine of $10,000 in connection with a release of noxious odors in May.

The refinery and the Davis County Health Department settled a notice of violation that was issued to the company following the incident on May 15, which sickened nearby residents, including children who went home from school early as a result.

The health department’s investigation found that the release of noxious odors violated the board’s regulations. The money from the fine will help fund a broader air monitoring program in Davis County.

Silver Eagle Refinery issued a statement regarding the situation: “Over the past six weeks Silver Eagle Refinery has been working collaboratively with the Davis County Health Department and the city of Woods Cross to resolve all items listed in the notice of violations.”
