SALT LAKE CITY -- Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City held an event Wednesday with the goal of urging people to reach out to veterans.

Officials said more than 22 military veterans take their own lives every day, and they said one way to combat the issue is for people to reach out and connect with military veterans.

Wednesday's event encouraged people to connect with veterans through a phone call or a visit. FOX 13 News' Dave Nemeth spoke with those at the event, including a man who says a timely phone call saved the life of a veteran he knows who was feeling suicidal--see the video above for those interviews.
