Search and rescue responds after motorcyclist suffers serious injuries

UTAH COUNTY – A man was taken to a hospital by medical helicopter Thursday after he suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle crash.

Officials with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said a 35-year-old man from Salem was riding in the Sawmill Hollow area in Diamond Fork Canyon when he reportedly crashed and hit a log.

An ambulance, Utah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue and LifeFlight responded to the man, who was about 14 miles away from U.S. Highway 6. Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the person who called 911 was a nurse and several others with medical training were with the victim. The callers reported the man may have suffered broken ribs, a broken collarbone and internal chest injuries.

Cannon said the man was stabilized and transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The name of the victim has not been released. It was not clear what caused the man to crash. FOX 13 News will have more information crews as it becomes available.
