PROVO, Utah – The City of Provo is looking to update its flag, and they are seeking public input on the design.

Provo Mayor John Curtis said they began looking at updating the flag as part of an effort to re-brand the city.

"And we soon learned that what we were looking at wasn't really in line with what makes a good flag,” he said.

Curtis said he began reading up on vexillology, which is the study of the history, symbolism and usage of flags.

"The best flag is one that's symbolic, and doesn't necessarily have the city logo on it, but is symbolic,” he said. “Think of the flag of the United States of America. And so one with symbolism, and usually you don't put letters on the flag, and it's very simple."

Provo resident Lydia Nielsen spoke about one of the proposed designs.

"Love the mountains, love the stars, makes me think of America: I think Provo should support America,” she said.

Dave Lowery is another Provo resident with an opinion on the flag.

"I feel like any Provo flag should have a bike, like a bike should be our mascot,” he said.

Curtis said they are hoping to get feedback from as many people as possible, click here to share your view on the flag.
