SYRACUSE, Utah -- Police were involved in a pursuit of a car Saturday, and dramatic video from a FOX 13 News viewer shows the car speeding across the grass of Founders Park as children frantically move out of the way.

The chase ended around 6:12 p.m. at 1500 S. Banbury Drive in Syracuse, and police officials said a minor had taken the vehicle without permission and officers sought the vehicle on a breach of trust.

The 14-year-old male driving the car is from Sunset and had taken the vehicle from his grandfather in Duchesne County, and the grandfather reported the car stolen, according to a press release from the Syracuse Police Department. Police put out an attempt to locate, and police responded after a tipster spotted the car in Syracuse. The tipster heard the attempt to locate while using a police scanner app on a smart phone.

Syracuse Police Department officials responded to the call, and video footage of the chase is available above. A photo from the scene shows the same car that tore through the park collided with a pickup truck. A second photo shows the damage to both vehicles, see the gallery below.  Another video, courtesy of Bryson and Brandy Rowley, shows the moment of impact:

Bryson Rowley was driving the truck, and he said he intentionally used his truck as a ram rod to stop the fleeing vehicle. Rowley provided the pictures and videos in this story, and he said he acted to end the chase because he was afraid for the safety of his and other children at the park.

“The person driving the truck could see it was turning back into the park, and he did not want the car to hit all of the children, or any of the children, and he actually pulled his truck in the way so the car collided with the truck,” said Officer Erin Behm with the Syracuse Police Department.

Brandy Rowley, Bryson's wife, spoke about the incident.

“My heart dropped," she said. "I honestly thought one of those kids is going to die."

In the days that followed the incident, many people hailed Rowley as a hero and several people offered to repair his truck for free. He spoke with FOX 13 News about the support he's received and about his decision to intervene in the chase, click here for that interview.

Officials said the teen was taken to a nearby juvenile detention center.

If you cant dodge it RAM it i say CONGRATULARIONS for the Dad in the Dodge truck. Thank you for people like you….

  • Duane

The teenager’s punishment should be to work at a minimum wage job until he can pay back the damages to the truck and his grandfather’s car, that’ll be a nice reality check for this punk… then we’ll talk about the punishment to address all the children he put in danger.

  • John

Lady taking the video, instead of yelling for the kids to get out of the way while you record it maybe next time idk try and do something like get them out of the way… Good parenting skills

  • Sasha Charls

Anyone think this 14 year old might have been playing Need for Speed and Grand Theft Auto for 35 hours on his xbox and then decided to do this? Stop letting your kids play video games they are learning what they’re teaching. This is a real life grand theft auto scenario. You can’t say video games don’t affect kids when a video like this comes out….

  • John Smith

So let’s see how people will claim video games made this kid steal the white car. I’m anxious to prove them wrong with the power of science.

I nanny a few blocks away off of 1125 and Banbury. I take the kids (10 mo & 4 yrs) to this park multiple times a week and cross that very road every single time. The kids and I walk there there at least twice a week. This is a very busy child filled neighborhood. Most of the kids ride their bikes in the street. So glad that no one was hurt. This is an elementary school field that he was speeding across. I hope he gets locked up for at least a decade.

  • danny

The truck driver is a hero. Plan and simple. The kid driving the car drove it across the fields and then realised that the police did not follow him. He could see all the children playing, But had no care for them when he was coming around to go passed a second time. If he was injured by the crash so be it. You would all be up in arms if he did wipe out the kids playing.

  • Stefanie

I hope that kid who was too cool to get out of the way got a good smack on the head later that night.

So in this 2014 Edition of America, The Driver of the car will sue the Ram driver for assault with a deadly weapon.
The Judge will award all the Ram drivers assets to be immediately transferred to the driver of the car. Who was not threatening anyones life at the time.

  • Ben

Grossly exaggerated. There were no kids anywhere near the path of the car at any time. I saw no kids jumping. I saw one kid watch in awe as the car drove through the park.

  • Tyler

It says the police called off the chase but in the end of the 3ed video behind the suspect’s vehicle you can see a police unit :P

  • Mike Elliott

The driver of the truck could be in a Dodge commercial for Ram Tough. While the car is totaled the truck looked like it could be driven home with very little issues. I’m sure there are issues we can’t see. But for the most part, it looks all intact. Whatever the case, I applaud the man for his quick thinking.

  • Ryan

ok after market truck companies looks like its time to pay this coal burner back for
    his awesome civic duty

  • cb

If my child was in the park I would support the man that stopped the foolish driver. I would do it if I was was in his position all day long so you idiots that think you can get by driving like this kid the rules are changing….

  • John

When I took my parents car for a joyride at 15 I pulled over when the cops lit me up. It wasn’t that bad. Much better than driving through a park full of kids. smh

  • Jim

It the driver of the Dodge’s insurance company hassles him on the claim…….I’ve got a pen and a check book. I’ll donate to the cause. NICE WORK !

  • JaTu

there is a pretty good chance his insurance company will not cover the damages to his truck…and it looks like extensive damage underneath…i can see the rack and pinion for the steering hanging down. im sure his radiator is busted as well, maybe much more. No good deed goes unpunished…unfortunately.

  • Moe

I wouldn’t mind donating to fixing the dad’s truck just so his insurance won’t go up. That was quick thinking and good control of not actually running over the small white car. Any dad watching his kid almost getting run over by a speeding car would have probably done the same, but lucky for that 14 year old joy rider, this dad had some sense to just go fast enough to stop him. – Way to go parents that actually are keeping an eye on their kids.

  • Amy

Wonder when we’ll hear the follow-up story of the kid in the car suing the guy in the truck and wins a million dollars for psychological damage.

  • mike

that kid will grow up to be a great rallycross driver… when he turns 16 and gets his license someone let me know im giving that kid my subaru!

  • derek

he didnt hit anyone… and didnt seem to hurt anyone, so i dont see why everyone is caring about the “what if”… overdramatic people in this country annoy me.

  • Andrew

Well that was interesting I give the guy props on hitting the kid with the truck good job. This guy should get something like a big thank you. This was cool to watch though glad everyone is safe.
