WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Officials broke ground on a new industrial complex that is expected to bring an estimated 3,000 jobs to the area.

Gov. Gary Herbert was there as Freeport West Industrial Properties began work on a 2.3 million square foot industrial campus in West Valley City Thursday.

Herbert said he believes projects like these will help the state’s unemployment rate.

“It’s just incredible,” Herbert said. “Again, it’s a shot in the arm with the economy as we continue to grow and expand. I am pleased that our unemployment rate is down 3.8 percent, and this will help us drop it even lower.”

This is the second complex Freeport West Industrial Properties has built in Utah, and the first phase of the West Valley City campus is expected to open in the fall of 2015.
