SALT LAKE CITY – A charitable organization and a restaurant franchise teamed up for a Day of Giving Wednesday to help those who are homeless in the Salt Lake area.

Rescue Mission of Salt Lake partnered with Subway for the sixth annual Day of Giving in Pioneer Park, and volunteers handed out lunches and provided clothing and hygiene items for individuals in the downtown area who are homeless.

Subway Restaurants donated $10,000 and 1,000 sandwiches to the cause.

“It’s a chance for us to come out and meet with our friends in need and give them a meal and try to give them some support and let them know we haven’t forgotten about them and try and get them back on their feet,” Subway Spokesman Trent Evans said.

The rescue mission serves meals to those in need and gives out an average of 10 family food boxes each day while providing about 150 people with a place to sleep for the night.
