TIMPANOGOS CAVE -- Each year more than 70,000 people make the 1.5-mile hike up Mount Timpanogos -- but now hikers will see some changes at one of Utah's top hiking destinations.

"The cave is unbelievable. We've been in a couple of caves like this before but this one is just unbelievable," said Jeff Rich, who spent his Memorial Day morning hiking to the top of the mountain.

Starting this year hikers won't have to wait hours in line for a ticket to see explore the caves.

"We have a new reservation system. We go through recreation.gov so people can do their own reservations online," said Carole Heslop, park ranger at Timpanogos Cave National Monument.

Hikers can get tickets up to 30 days in advance. And on holidays like Memorial Day, tour spots will most likely be sold out. That's why Heslop recommends getting tickets at least two days before your hike.

"Once July comes we're busy every day and we sell out every day," Heslop said.

You select your time online and then the day of your hike you pick up your ticket -- that way there's no wait and now worry about getting into the cave.

"We were able to pick the time we wanted to come and so we always pick in the morning when it's kinda cool instead of in the heat," said The Cline Family, who has made it a yearly tradition to hike the trail each Memorial Day.
