SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — Fire crews from four agencies responded to a blaze at a food warehouse in South Salt Lake Thursday morning.

The fire started at Talisman Foods, 3224 S 200 E, around 8 a.m.

“When we arrived, we had heavy fire in the rear of the building and did not go in the structure. We started out on a defensive fire just because of the volume of fire,” said Kent Robertson, Battalion Chief for the South Salt Lake City Fire Department. “Once the fire was knocked down, we transitioned to an attack inside the building.”

Firefighters from the South Salt Lake City Fire Department, the West Valley City Fire Department, the Murray City Fire Department and Unified Fire Authority worked together to put out the fire.

A haz-mat crew was also dispatched to the scene since ammonia is used for refrigeration purposes at the warehouse.

“We did not determine there was a leak,” Robertson said of the ammonia at the site.

Two employees sustained burn injuries described as “very minor.” Those employees were treated at the scene and released.

Estimates on the damage or when the business might become operational again weren’t immediately available.
