AKRON, Ohio – A pair of twins born just days before Mother’s Day are getting national attention because of their unique birth and a heartwarming show of sisterhood.
FOX 13 News sister station FOX 8 in Clevelandreports that Jenna and Jillian were born to Sarah and Bill Thisthlewaite of Orville Friday, and the two are considered “mono mono” twins.
Mono mono twins share an amniotic sack, a rare occurrence that happens about 1 in every 10,000 twin pregnancies. Complications mean that some "mono mono" twins never survive to birth.
The two newborn sisters added a heartwarming twist to their unique birth, as seconds after they were born the nurses held them up to show their parents and the sisters clasped hands.
“They were born 45 seconds apart,” Amy Kilgore, a hospital spokesperson who was there for the birth, told FOX 8 in Cleveland. “Once they made sure they were OK, they held them up so mom and dad could see. As soon as they were side by side, they held hands. It gave me chills.”
