SALT LAKE CITY – Volunteers from Utah’s tourism industry were out working Wednesday despite the rain, and they were removing brush, garbage and weeds from areas near the Jordan Parkway.

Pat Holmes, Vice President of Visit Salt Lake, said she was proud of those who came to help with the service project, which was put together as part of the National Travel and Tourism Week's Day of Service.

“I think it tells a lot about our industry,” she said. “There are people servicing that are at the front desk of the hotels, they’re at the restaurants, they’re doing everything for your housekeeping. These are the people that are really devoted to the industry and I think that says a lot about it.”

Tourism brings an estimated $7.4 billion to the state each year, with $1 billion of that ending up in Salt Lake County. Those who volunteered Wednesday said they were happy to do their part to make Utah a destination for visitors around the world.
