Car hits power pole, forcing outage in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY — Approximately 1,336 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Salt Lake City were left without electricity after a car collided with a power pole early Tuesday morning.

Police said a man drove his car into a power pole at 750 W 900 S, knocking it over and causing it to catch fire.

The crash also damaged some power lines and sparked a second fire at another power pole about a block away.

Firefighters from the Salt Lake City Fire Department put out both fires.

As of 11:30 a.m., power had been restores to all by about 350 customers. Rocky Mountain Power workers are repairing the damage and expect to restore power by 5 p.m.

Police said the driver sustained head injuries and was taken to LDS Hospital.
