WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- Homes in West Valley City are getting a face list as part of a new program.

The Idea House program is fixing up broken-down homes in low-income neighborhoods. The homes are safer, healthier and more energy efficient while still being affordable.

"We have increased insulation, we have a high-efficiency furnace, a tank less water heater, windows and doors and then we also expanded the footprint just a little bit so there's just a little bit more square footage," said Kris Thorpe, program manager, Community Development Corporation of Utah.

The remodeled homes serve as a model to the neighbors that renovations can be made to improve the safety and efficient of their homes, as well as improve their neighborhoods.

"Upgrades can be made economically and that other people in the neighborhood can make those improvements to keep the housing stock well maintained," Thorpe said.
