SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah golfing legends Johnny Miller and Billy Casper received Lifetime Achievement of Sport Awards at the Governor’s State of Sport Awards ceremony on Tuesday night.

The event was even more special for the Utah golfing legends because Jack Nicklaus was there as the featured speaker.

“Those are the two more important people to me in the game of golf,” Miller said. “I learned more from Jack and more from Billy than all the rest of them combined. Jack is like my older brother.”

Nicklaus had equal praise for Miller and Casper.

“Every time I looked at a leaderboard, it wasn’t just looking for Palmer and Player, I was looking for Miller and Casper, because I knew they were going to be there,” Nicklaus said. “Johnny, probably for a period of time when he was hot, he was the best golfer in the planet. And Billy was always consistent week after week, and I don’t think he got the credit he deserved.”

Casper was unable to attend the event due to health concerns.
